At the last moment, Polish law enforcement officers managed to thwart a planned assassination in the capital of Poland. The attack was intended to be the first attempt by Russian special services to target an American citizen on NATO territory.

This was reported by Deutsche Welle.

The special operation to detain the citizen of the Russian Federation took place on August 7. According to the investigation, the man was recruited by Russian special services and was preparing a murder in Warsaw. The target of the attack was a man with dual Ukrainian and US citizenship, whose name has not yet been disclosed.

The head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, emphasized that the potential victim was “inconvenient for the regime” of Volodymyr Putin.

“He was inconvenient for Putin’s regime. At the last moment, thanks to the actions of the Internal Security Agency and the police, we managed to prevent this execution, this attack,” Tusk said.

To uncover this crime, Polish law enforcement worked together with US intelligence. As specified by the Minister-Coordinator of Special Services, Tomasz Siemoniak, on X, the killer was hunting a “US citizen of Ukrainian origin”.

“I am not authorized to disclose names, but this is the first case where someone, on Russia’s orders, decided to attack an American citizen on the territory of another NATO country, specifically in Poland, in Warsaw,” Tusk noted.

Poland emphasized that this assassination attempt is part of Russia’s hybrid warfare against countries that help Ukraine. Because of this, the Polish Prime Minister called on the world to prepare for new actions and threats from the Russian Federation.

“Unfortunately, we must assume that Putin’s regime will try to eliminate inconvenient people for various reasons, in different places around the world,” he warned.

As a reminder, in London, an aggressive man, most likely Polish, verbally attacked a group of Ukrainians who were organizing fundraising for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The man called them “Banderites,” “scum,” and “nationalists.”
