Following the attempt on Obolenskyi, an expert warned of Russia’s new tactic.

The attempted assassination of Ihor Obolenskyi is part of a large-scale Russian campaign aimed at physically eliminating influential Ukrainian commanders, politicians, media figures, and volunteers who collect substantial donations for the army.
This was stated by military expert Ivan Stupak, who worked for the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) from 2004 to 2015, in an interview with “Kyiv24.”
“There is logic in the enemy’s actions – it is the elimination of our top commanders, our politicians. It is the elimination of our, let’s say, opinion leaders, volunteers who collect money. We understand that there are several individuals among us who, under their names, raise huge donations. Everyone clearly understands that if these names are gone, donations won’t be collected, and consequently, the funding for certain needs and individual military units will cease,” the expert noted.
He also included the chief designer of Fire Point, who has recently gained media attention, among these “targets of the Russian Federation.” According to Ivan Stupak, Denys Shtilerman is ranked very high on the enemy’s elimination lists.
Despite the Kremlin’s existence of such plans, Ukraine’s counterintelligence successfully thwarts most of these attempts, warning against hostile actions in time. Concurrently, the expert recalled a tragic incident two years ago in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, where SSU Colonel Voronich was killed near his apartment building. The perpetrators in that case could not be apprehended alive; they were neutralized on the spot.
“Unfortunately, the Russian Federation has a plan, there are always intentions. And again, I say, it’s another matter that they are not succeeding. Thank God, so far,” Ivan Stupak concluded.
