Russia has unexpectedly declared its willingness to resume peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. However, the Kremlin has set a condition, stating they will consider proposals exclusively from the American side.

This was announced by Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs of Russia, as reported by Russian propaganda media.

Karasin stated that Moscow is currently prepared to focus on discussing new proposals specifically from the United States.

The official also indicated that the Kremlin sees no obstacles to meeting with US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the son-in-law of the head of the White House, Jared Kushner.

Karasin asserts that Russia is ready to re-engage in peace talks, provided the US demonstrates interest in achieving practical results.

“We are always open to meetings and negotiations. Therefore, this applies to both Kushner and Witkoff. I do not see any impediments to holding such a meeting, regardless of what Zelensky has proposed or not proposed,” the Russian official expressed.

He added that the primary criterion for the effectiveness of a new stage of peace negotiations should be concrete agreements and outcomes.

As a reminder, the previous day, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine had submitted proposals to the US for ending the war and urged Washington to strengthen air defense and pressure on Russia. The President also cited Ukrainian intelligence data suggesting that Moscow plans to announce a new mobilization wave in the autumn, after staging parliamentary elections, to draft hundreds of thousands of Russians.

Zelensky stated that the US should more actively participate in developing a peace plan, emphasizing that Ukraine categorically rejects territorial concessions to Russia. He also underscored the critical importance of robust security guarantees to prevent further Russian aggression following a potential pause in the war.
