Як допис НАТО викликав обурення в Україні та Європі: від «досить круто» до «досить ніяково»

The official NATO Instagram account posted a message with photos of military personnel and grand captions such as “Kinda cool to defend 1 billion people,” which sparked a wave of indignant comments.

Now NATO has had to close comments, as photos of military personnel with captions “Kinda cool to have the latest technology” and “Kinda cool to invest more in defence” have caused an unexpected reaction.

NATO Got Into Trouble Over a Grand Post

Instead of favorable reactions, the posts received a wave of criticism and sarcastic comments from users from Ukraine and other countries.

Ukrainians wrote: “Idk why it’s kinda cringe to read this from Ukraine,” and foreign commenters mocked NATO’s inaction regarding Russian drones and planes entering their territory (“Kinda cool letting russian drones and planes on Nato territory and doing nothing”).

“It’s pretty cool to be afraid to respond to Russia’s provocations and always express concern instead of taking action,” wrote another user, reminding that Russian drones and missiles have repeatedly entered NATO territory, such as Poland and Romania.

Another commenter noted that it would be great to defend Ukraine, as it is currently Ukraine that is defending NATO countries.

Another ironically wrote that these loud statements by NATO should be repeated to the Ukrainian military, who are actually defending a billion people.

There were also comments about how NATO obeys Donald Trump and how inappropriate that is right now.

Due to mass criticism, the ability to comment on the post was restricted, so only likes are allowed.

Interestingly, NATO’s statements about defending “one billion people” began to be disseminated only after the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine.

In 2024, the Deputy Commander of NATO’s Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), Admiral Didier Maleterre, spoke about the vulnerability of Western underwater infrastructure to the aggressor country, Russia. According to Maleterre, if Russia decides to attack underwater pipelines, power cables, and other critical equipment (including wind farms) as part of its hybrid war with the West, the safety of nearly 1 billion residents of Europe and North America will be at stake.

The Admiral emphasized that the underwater cables and pipes, on which Europe’s energy supply and communications depend, are not designed to be protected against attacks within the framework of a hybrid war, as they were laid by private companies that did not take into account current risks.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian soldiers have once again shown that NATO troops are not ready for modern warfare with drones. At joint military exercises in Germany, the US army was defeated by drones.

Earlier, Ukrainian soldiers told WELT journalists about the problems that exist within NATO forces.
