Russia intends to significantly increase the production of its promising “Dan-T” missiles, aiming to deploy them en masse in the coming years to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defense system.

By 2027, the Russian Federation plans to manufacture approximately ten thousand new, relatively inexpensive missiles that can be launched from various platforms. The mass production of such attack assets will create an extremely large number of challenges for Ukraine due to the difficulty of intercepting them.
This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian veteran and military analyst kriegsforscher on the social network X.
Missile characteristics and potential carriers
It is currently known that the promising “Dan-T” cruise missile has a flight range of about 500 kilometers and carries a warhead weighing 135 kilograms. As noted by the OSINT project NOELREPORTS, which confirms these alarming plans of the occupiers, these characteristics allow the enemy to deliver devastating strikes deep into Ukrainian territory.
Currently, launches of these missiles can be successfully carried out from aerial platforms, including Su-25SM3, Su-30SM, Su-34, Su-57 aircraft, and the Mi-28 attack helicopter. Simultaneously, the enemy is actively developing capabilities for their use from ground-based launchers and even warships, which will make this long-range weapon even more versatile and unpredictable.
Additionally, the Russians are working on equipping the missile with the modern “Kometa-16” antenna array and an electro-optical terminal guidance system. This clearly indicates their direct intentions to transform a comparatively simple target into a fully-fledged, high-precision cruise weapon.
Inexpensive alternative and import substitution
The command of the Russian Aerospace Forces is seriously considering the possibility of gradually replacing significantly older S8000 “Banderol” munitions with these new missiles. The main reason for this strategic decision is financial benefit, as the mass production of “Dan-T” turns out to be approximately thirty-five percent cheaper.
Ukrainian intelligence also registers systematic attempts by the enemy to maximally scale this dangerous project and reduce production costs. Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Vadym Skibitskyi, previously reported that the occupiers have set a clear task for manufacturers to fully transition the assembly of these missiles to components made exclusively in-house.
The danger of the situation lies not only in the planned enormous quantities but also in Russia’s active development of the concept of jet target drones, transforming them into deadly strike assets. This weapon is a direct continuation of the “Dan-M” project—an aircraft capable of operating at altitudes up to nine kilometers and reaching a cruising speed of up to 750 kilometers per hour.
The high maneuverability, which was incorporated into the design of these aircraft at the stage of developing regular training targets, significantly complicates the work of modern air defense systems. The appearance of such a quantity of targets directly indicates preparation for large-scale combined attacks, for which Ukrainian defenders will definitely require substantial additional assistance from Western allies.
We remind you that Russia is working on longer-range versions of the “Iskander-1000.” However, experts believe that this will not significantly alter the complexity of its interception for Ukrainian air defense. At the same time, greater range allows Russia to move its launch platforms further from the border.
