Apple has removed a number of Russian applications from the App Store, including “Odnoklassniki,” Mail.ru, and specific VK services.
This information is being reported by Russian media, citing user complaints and a statement from VK.
According to reports, the applications “VK Music,” “VK Messenger,” “VK Video,” and “VK Dating,” along with the Mail.ru and “Odnoklassniki” apps, have vanished from the App Store. Meanwhile, the “VKontakte” social network itself, according to Russian media, reportedly remains accessible.
Users who previously installed these applications can still use them for the time being. However, it is no longer possible to update or re-download them from the App Store.
Furthermore, iPhone users will no longer receive push notifications from the removed applications.
The VK press service expressed dissatisfaction, complaining that Apple removed the applications “without warning.” The company described the decision as “unmotivated and unacceptable.”
In contrast, for Android users, the relevant applications remain available through Google Play, according to Russian media reports.
As a reminder, the publication Bloomberg previously reported that documents concerning Russia’s “Project 2026” had surfaced. These documents revealed that Russia planned to “clutter” the internet with fake websites designed to imitate Wikipedia and analytical centers.
