The attacks by SBU’s Sea Baby naval drones on Russia’s shadow fleet are giving Ukraine new leverage in international negotiations.
This is reported by political scientist and former MP Oleksandr Chernenko.
The expert emphasizes that Russia is now ablaze not only on land but also at sea.
“Instead of the shadow fleet tanker ‘Blue’, which was under sanctions from the EU and other countries, the Service has introduced its own, more effective sanctions. The ‘Sea Baby’ naval drones delivered them on board. The SBU, under the leadership of Yevhen Khmara, is putting Ukraine in a proactive position. Such operations are shaping a new logic of warfare. It is being shaped by the Service’s drones. Ground drones that reach oil refineries every night, and ‘sea’ drones that strike the shadow fleet. And this combination will continue to bring closer the Ukrainian peace,” Chernenko highlights.
The political scientist believes that this SBU operation opens a new avenue for Ukraine to exert economic pressure on Russia.
“The shadow fleet has become one of the primary tools for the survival of the Russian economy following the imposition of large-scale Western restrictions. Now, for the Kremlin, there are no absolutely safe elements of energy infrastructure. Any segment of the chain from production to export, from oil refineries to the ‘shadow fleet,’ can become a target for the Service. This is precisely how the strategy of economic attrition works,” the former MP emphasizes.
“As Donald Trump says, strikes on Russian oil refineries bring peace closer. Well, the Service has found another way to bring it closer. Such operations become a strong argument in Ukraine’s dialogue with its partners. In international politics, not only diplomatic statements matter, but also a state’s real capabilities to change the situation on the battlefield. When Ukraine demonstrates its ability to systematically influence the sources of funding for the Russian war, its arguments become significantly more convincing,” the expert concludes.
We remind you that earlier it became known that on the morning of July 8, a Ukrainian Security Service maritime drone, Sea Baby, struck the tanker ‘Blue,’ which is part of the Russian Federation’s ‘shadow fleet.’ ‘Sea Baby’ hit the stern of the tanker, causing significant damage. Enemy aircraft attempted to counter the SBU’s naval drone but were unsuccessful.
