A high-ranking Ukrainian Armed Forces general emphasized that Russia’s ballistic missile defense systems are largely incapable of effectively countering such strikes.

The emergence of Ukrainian ballistic missiles will represent a significant blow to Russia in the ongoing conflict. Strikes targeting enemy military infrastructure within Russian territory will impact the sense of security inside the country.
This perspective was shared on the “Espresso” and Slawa.TV airwaves by retired Major General Volodymyr Havrylov, former Deputy Minister of Defense (2022-2023) and head of the Yevhen Berezniak Military Diplomatic Academy (2014-2015).
He believes that new European anti-ballistic projects will not yield rapid results, and the global supply of modern interceptors is limited, necessitating that Ukraine explore novel solutions.
“We must swiftly bring our ballistic program to fruition. We need to respond to Russia with strikes on military targets and critical infrastructure in the country’s central regions. This is precisely Russia’s ‘Achilles’ heel’ in this war,” stressed Havrylov.
He added that the adversary’s ballistic defense systems are largely incapable of effectively countering such attacks.
“They lack decentralized production. Major enterprises are concentrated in a few locations, and they cannot quickly alter this. Consequently, even a limited number of Ukrainian ballistic strikes will have a far more potent military and psychological effect on Russia… They need to see that a Ukrainian ballistic missile exists, one that cannot be stopped by propaganda or loud pronouncements,” he explained.

It is worth recalling that, according to UN data, June marked the deadliest month for Ukraine in over four years of war. Official figures from the organization indicate that during June, 293 Ukrainian civilians were killed and an additional 1,990 were injured to varying degrees of severity as a result of Russian aggression.
Meanwhile, Russian forces continue their assaults on Kostiantynivka. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has visited this sector to receive reports from commanders of combat brigades and units.
