The fuel crisis is already noticeable in the remote regions of the Russian Federation, while Moscow remains a priority for supply.

Russia is increasingly increasing its import of petroleum products, however, this does not fully help to resolve the issue of fuel deficit in certain regions of the country.
This was stated on Espresso TV by Oleg Pendzyn, a member of the Economic Discussion Club.
According to him, Russia is currently purchasing petroleum products from several countries simultaneously.
“The Russian Federation has actively started purchasing petroleum products through imports. Half of Belarus’s oil refining capacities are actively working for them. They are taking more than 120,000 tons per month from Kazakhstan. Petroleum products from India are now going to them,” Pendzyn noted.
The economist added that one of India’s largest oil refining plants is owned by the Russian company Rosneft, and the petroleum products produced there are delivered to Russia by sea.
At the same time, he emphasized that Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces are striking at the logistics of such supplies.
“Currently, the Unmanned Systems Forces are actively disrupting this with drones. But one must understand: Russia is importing in any case,” Pendzyn stressed.
He also drew attention to the fact that fuel in Russia is distributed unevenly.
According to the economist, the Kremlin primarily supplies fuel to Moscow and the Central Federal District to maintain the appearance of a stable situation, while remote regions are already facing serious difficulties.
“Moscow and the Central Federal District are fully supplied to show a good picture, that there are no queues. Meanwhile, in remote subjects of the federation, there are no petroleum products even for emergency services – ambulance or the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Therefore, one must understand that remote subjects of the federation are already in collapse. Moscow, however, will be supplied at the highest level to demonstrate the picture,” Pendzyn concluded.
Earlier it was reported that Russia’s economy has almost stopped growing, and for the first five months of 2026, the country’s gross domestic product increased by only 0.2%.
