The legendary boxer appealed to the global community with a call to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. The statement was made ahead of Independence Day.
The 50-year-old champion, Wladimir Klitschko, who recently lost his ex-wife and mother of his daughter, recalled how once raising the blue and yellow flag above the ring was his life’s mission – an opportunity to give his country a small victory. However, according to him, he could not have imagined how much greater the significance of this symbol would become later.
“There was a time when raising the flag of Ukraine above the ring was my greatest pride – a way to give my country its own victory. I never imagined how much bigger what that flag symbolizes would become,” the athlete noted.

The boxer emphasized that independence is a decision that Ukrainians make every day, and this year, when the enemy is making special efforts to make the holiday painful, this choice matters more than ever before.

Klitschko concluded his appeal with a request that sounded like a call to action: to arm Ukraine with air defense systems to protect the choice made by the entire free world.
