Distant strikes on military and infrastructure facilities within the Russian Federation hold strategic significance.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine need to establish a separate command responsible for planning and executing long-range strikes against strategic targets on Russian territory.

This viewpoint was shared on Espreso by military-political observer of the “Information Resistance” group, Oleksandr Kovalenko.

According to him, strikes on facilities located far from the Ukrainian border, particularly on Russian oil refineries, fall under strategic-level operations.

“This is necessary to, in principle, separate strategic-level actions that will be carried out on the territory of the Russian Federation itself. Because, if we are talking about deep strike level, this is already a strategic-level impact. Strikes on Russian refineries, Omsk Refinery, Syzran Refinery – these are strategic-level targets. And everything that goes beyond 300, 400, 500 kilometers from the border… Even on satellite communication centers in the same Dubna, which were hit, they are now non-functional, they are not working. This is strategic-level communication,” said Kovalenko.

The expert noted that strikes on key communication and infrastructure facilities deep within the RF also fall under strategic operations.

“Everything located at a distance of more than 300–400–500 kilometers from the border with Ukraine is already the development and planning of such strikes at a strategic level. Whereas, for example, strikes on the temporarily occupied peninsula of Crimea, or our logistic lockdown, which we are currently implementing primarily in the mainland south of Ukraine, gradually shifting it to the Crimean peninsula and the Sea of Azov, the blockade of the Sea of Azov – this is a more operational-tactical level. Tactical, starting from the very line of combat engagements, to a depth of 30–40 kilometers, and further 200–300 kilometers – this is the operational-tactical level of actions. The middle sky, let’s call it that,” he explained.

In Kovalenko’s opinion, distinguishing between strategic and operational-tactical planning will help avoid duplication of work by different units of the Defense Forces.

“And, so that they don’t hinder each other in planning relevant operations, regardless of what kind of силову structure it is, whether it’s the GUR, or the SBU, or some other units, accordingly, that are part of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, it is necessary to plan strategic-level impact separately. Plus – it’s the possibility of obtaining relevant information, forming one’s own database, one’s own sequence of strikes, so to speak, without considering the needs, for example, of the middle or low sky,” the expert concluded.

Earlier, it was reported that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, announced the creation of a new command for long-range impact within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

We previously informed that after Ukraine’s successful long-range strikes on Russian oil refineries and other strategic facilities, the Kremlin intensified its information war against the West.
