The President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, has become embroiled in a political controversy following a car accident alongside a long-time friend who reportedly has connections to Moscow, as reported by TPW.
The President has denied any links to Russian intelligence, but a parliamentary security committee has requested an urgent briefing from the country’s intelligence service due to the head of state’s potential ties with her Russian-born friend.
On Wednesday, the parliamentary committee invited representatives from the Slovenian intelligence agency SOVA for a meeting next week to receive a relevant report.

Meanwhile, Slovenian Member of Parliament Žan Mahnič of the ruling centre-right Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) has called on the government to cease providing the President with intelligence and security reports. Mahnič explained his demand by suspicions that she might be connected to a Russian espionage network.
“We categorically deny that the President is cooperating with Russian intelligence networks,” stated Pirc Musar’s office.
Pirc Musar ran for office as an independent candidate.
Increased scrutiny of the President emerged after reports surfaced about her long-time friend, Viktorija Krivoluckaja, a Slovenian citizen of Russian origin.
At the end of July, Pirc Musar was hospitalized with a broken collarbone following a traffic accident. Krivoluckaja was also in the President’s official vehicle at the time of the collision.

Earlier this week, local media reported that Krivoluckaja had close ties to Roman Jeglič – a former Slovenian intelligence officer who became the center of a scandal and fled to Russia in the mid-1990s.
Subsequently, Krivoluckaja confirmed that she had been in a romantic relationship with Jeglič and lived with him in Russia for several years.
At the same time, she stated that she has had no contact with him for over 15 years.
