Macaulay Culkin’s path has unfolded quite successfully, with certain nuances: he managed to overcome a difficult crisis, find personal happiness, and return to his professional life.
On his birthday, August 26th, the actor, who turned 46 today, holds the status of a happy father of two children, has a strong relationship, and a revived career.
Career Problems and Parental Pressure
The primary reason for the collapse of Culkin’s early career was money and toxic family relationships. His father, Christopher “Kit” Culkin, who became his son’s manager, made exorbitant financial demands on producers (up to $8 million per film) and manipulated studios. As a result, directors simply refused to work with the young star. Furthermore, Macaulay experienced psychological and physical abuse at home.
At 14, after the film “Richie Rich” (1994), Macaulay decided to leave Hollywood, seeking a “normal life.” At 15, he legally stripped his parents of their right to manage his $17 million trust fund and completely ceased contact with his father, whom he has not seen for about 30 years.

Rumors about the critical condition of the “Home Alone” star circulated in the press for years. In 2004, he was arrested for possession of marijuana and prescription medication without a prescription. The situation particularly escalated in 2012 when tabloids published photos of a severely emaciated Macaulay, claiming he had a severe heroin addiction and was experiencing depression after breaking up with actress Mila Kunis.
Culkin himself later denied using hard drugs on such a scale but admitted to having a difficult period, which he managed to completely overcome.
Family and Birth of Children
Macaulay’s life changed drastically after meeting actress Brenda Song in 2017. The couple is still not officially married (despite being engaged), but together they are raising two sons:
- Dakota (born in April 2021, named in honor of Macaulay’s late sister).
- Carson (born in December 2022).
“Kevin” admits that he approaches fatherhood with the principle of “doing everything the opposite” of his own father. He constantly tells his children that he is proud of them and shields them from excessive media attention. Interestingly, the boys enjoy watching “Home Alone” but have not yet realized that the person on screen is their dad.

In 2023, the birthday boy received a well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In recent years, Culkin has returned to acting: he made a notable appearance in the series “American Horror Story” and is also involved in Amazon’s major series “Fallout,” where he plays a mad scientist.
We remind you that Focus previously wrote that:
- Macaulay Culkin might return to the role of Kevin McCallister for the first time in 35 years in a new film in the “Home Alone” franchise.
- What the actor’s fiancée looks like.
Additionally, Culkin was spotted for the first time after the death of “Kevin’s mom,” Catherine O’Hara.
