The Kremlin called the position of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the war in Ukraine “erroneous” and stated their intention to “explain with arguments” their point of view through all available channels.
This was stated by the press secretary of Russian President Putin, Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the recent remarks of the Azerbaijani leader, as reported by “Gordon.”
The statement refers to Aliyev’s speech at the Shusha Media Forum on July 13, where, in response to a question from Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon, he said that Ukraine should not agree to the occupation of its territories.
The President of Azerbaijan also emphasized that Baku consistently supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and internationally recognized borders and believes that the war must be “immediately stopped.”
“I think that neither the Ukrainian people nor the Ukrainian authorities needed my advice, but I would repeat it today just the same: never agree to occupation. And this is what Ukraine is doing – it does not agree to occupation,” Aliyev said.
Commenting on these words, Peskov stated that Moscow does not share such a position.
“Regarding the opinion on Ukraine, we consider this opinion erroneous and will consistently explain with arguments through all channels why we consider it erroneous,” said the Kremlin spokesman.
Earlier, Peskov stated that Russia is allegedly “ready” for a peaceful resolution of the war against Ukraine. However, at the same time, they cynically assure that they have sufficient resources to continue the so-called special military operation.
